A local band, formerly named The Shandels, changed their name to The Gray Things (named after Lee Gray's radio shift) just before their record was issued. Not only did the record get a lot of airplay on WTRY, but the station even created a Gray Thing Troll Doll that they gave away to promote the band.

In 1969, a college student named Gary Guthrie (who later became the Program Director for WAKY) interviewed Lee Gray. In the interview, Lee talks about the current music that is being played at radio WMCA, about getting into radio, the responsibilites involved and more.
