A local band, formerly named The Shandels, changed their name to The Gray Things (named after Lee Gray's radio shift) just before their record was issued. Not only did the record get a lot of airplay on WTRY, but the station even created a Gray Thing Troll Doll that they gave away to promote the band.

you can so that one day, you can only work 3 hours a day..."
In 1969, a college student named Gary Guthrie (who later became the Program Director for WAKY) interviewed Lee Gray. In the interview, Lee talks about the current music that is being played at radio WMCA, about getting into radio, the responsibilites involved and more.
"WTRY had pictures of our demographics in the studio and
we would visualize talking to that one person."
In 1986, WWCN in Albany interviewed Lee Gray and Jay Clark about their experiences at WTRY back in the 60's (at the time, 20 years ago). They talk about concerts, promotions and about the state of radio at the present time compared to the 1960's.
