This is the beginning of Lee Gray's Radio Career. Lee joined the Army in 1953 and eventually became a Military Policeman stationed in Germany. He had always been told that he had a great voice, but his "singing" career was going nowhere and he was considering making a career in the military.

Then one day he met a man who drove a Gullwing Mercedes. This immediately caught his attention and Lee began to talk to the gentleman. He eventually asked what the man did for the military. The man replied, "I fly jet's and I also host a radio show on AFN." That's when Lee knew what he wanted to do. He didn't have a pilot's license (yet), but he did have the voice to get started in radio.

Lee signed up to work at the Armed Forces Radio Network in Kaiserslautern, Germany to start his radio career. At this time, he used his given name on the air...

R.L Darling.
